Successful Music Marketing Model
It is great that they have returned. The new Epitonic is a very different creature. It makes playing and downloading music super easy through playlist features.
Here are some of the artists that were featured on Oddio Overplay in those early Epitonic years and whose CDs appear in the Oddio Headquarters music library thanks to Epitonic.
+ Sahara Hotnights - This band of Swedish girls who grew up on all four corners of an intersection was such a favorite that we have pursued everything they have ever released. Think Joan Jett.
+ J Boogie - Yes, still hooked on San Francisco's own J. Boogie. His freebies on Epitonic turned on the Oddbots to Om Records, the finest in lounge.
+ The Cinematic Orchestra - These boys actually got the soul legend Fontella Bass ("Rescue Me") to perform on the free Epitonic track, and others. Love it! This is a Ninja Tune release. (see the video for "All That You Give")
+ King Kooba - Tell me, does it get any smoother than this? This is the sound of the first class jet set, baby. Fantastic!
+ Four Tet (see the crazy "No More Mosquitoes" video)
You are certain to find excitement for your ears at the new Epitonic!

FMA New Webjay
Once upon a time, there was a website called Webjay that employed cutting edge software of the day to create playlists of music files from the web. Users were able to create, save, and share these playlists. Today, we have the Free Music Archive for making those mixes, playlists, mixtapes, or compilations. The beauty of the remarkable music in your playlists at the Free Music Archive is that it is all free and legally shared. Copyright issues were always a problem with Webjay.
I loved Webjay. It was exciting to hear new music from people worldwide. My playlist of Brazilian music at Webjay went viral with online popularity and surprisingly landed in the New York Times in 2004. Yahoo purchased Webjay in 2006 and closed the site in 2007.
Today, the wonderful Free Music Archive offers us all a playground for creating playlists of music we enjoy for free. Those playlists can be embedded anywhere on the web. Playlists of compiled tunes are available for download with one click. That's just one of the many excellent features available at the FMA.
We all now have the power to create, share, embed, and download mixtapes and share new artists with our friends -- and all for free! Thank you, Free Music Archive! See you there!
[Fellow webjays, you can find Webjay on Facebook, and there is also a Webjay group on Facebook.]

Lee Maddeford, busiest composer in Switzerland

| In Switzerland there lives a very busy composer, director, performer whose talent seems boundless. That man is Lee Maddeford and he is as at home with composing orchestral works as with children's music. Mr. Maddeford is a marvel with gypsy jazz, chamber music, cabaret and choral works, brass and woodwind ensembles, piano duets, soundtracks, and theatre music. One additional remarkable thing about the man: he is kind enough to share his work with you with Creative Commons licensing. As of this posting, there are several of his releases at the Free Music Archive, including INSTRUMENTALS 1 Les Gauchers Orchestra and Les Gauchers Quintet, AN ASTRAL FABLE and THE JUGGLERS SUITE with l'Ensemble de Cuivres Valaisan, and EROS ET PSYCHE with the Choeur Calliope. This playlist offers selections from each of those releases. |
