Dainty White Mouse

With the sheep imagery and talk of circulation, Purity Ring's "Fineshrine" calls to mind the song "Mignone Souris Blanche (Dainty White Mouse)" by Echo Lali on their La Valise aux Mille Voyages album (free download).

Pets need to be treated gently, don't they? Tiny pets need extra care.

Mignone souris blanche comme un flocon de neige
Tombée un beau dimanche d'une branche légère
Jolie flocon d'argent au museau si malin
Pourquoi as-tu si peur que je sens dans ma main?
Battre ton petit coeur
Mignone souris blanche légère comme la mousse
Je te cache dans ma manche, pour ne pas que tu tousses
Jolie plume fragile au museau si malin
Lorsque je te caline j'aime sentir dans ma main
Battre ton petit coeur

Dainty white mouse like a snowflake
Fallen on a beautiful Sunday onto a light branch
Pretty flake of silver with a sharp muzzle
Why do you have the fear that I feel in my hand?
The beating of your tiny heart
Dainty white mouse light as foam
I hide you in my sleeve, so you won't catch cold
Pretty fragile feather with a sharp muzzle
When I hold you, I love to feel in my hand
The beating of your tiny heart

Fineshrine Earworm

The track "Fineshrine" by Purity Ring has been a real earworm this summer as the Canadian group tours the USA. Seems like we hear it everywhere, and right now it is the top of the Canadian R3-30 charts.

If you have yet to hear it, "Fineshrine" is an airy, dream pop, electronic tune with delicate female vocals. The 4AD label still offers the song for free mp3 download to add to your season's soundtrack. For more about Purity Ring and their new album, Shrines, click the pic.

Stereogamy from Stealing Orchestra

Originally released in 2000 (NorteSul, EMI), Stereogamy was the first full length album by Stealing Orchestra. The album's tracks run the gamut from cartoony sound collages, like those of The Bran Flakes, to experimental work, like that of Renaldo and the Loaf, to more traditional instrumental compositions. In reviewing Stealing Orchestra at the time of the Stereogamy release, Cool and Strange Music Magazine wrote, "No matter how off the map Mascarenhas' musical funhouse gets, with things running backward and jumping in at the most inappropriate spots, there is always the semblance of a song.... It's like a soundtrack a spy movie run through a blender."
