  2. Parliment still stands. Have you heard this? "Guy Fawkes was the only man to enter Parliment with honest intentions."

    Bonfire Toffee Apples
    Ingredients:
    10 small crispy eating apples
    10 wooden sticks
    12 oz soft brown sugar
    1/4 pint water
    2 oz butter
    4oz golden syrup
    1 teaspoon of lemon juice

    Method:

    * Remove the stalks from the apples and wash and dry them
    * Put a wooden stick into each one
    * Butter a baking tray or greaseproof paper
    * To make toffee, put sugar and water into a heavy based saucepan and heat gently until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally
    * Have a bowl of water and a brush beside you to wash down any sugar granules which may stick to the side of the pan as you stir
    * When all sugar is dissolved add the butter, golden syrup and the lemon juice and stir until well blended
    * Increase heat and boil rapidly without stirring until the toffee reaches a temperature of 290F or soft crack stages
    * Remove from heat and allow bubbles to subside
    * Dip apples one at a time into the toffee making sure they are completely covered
    * Twirl around for a few seconds to allow access toffee to drip off then plunge into a bowl of cold water
    * Remove and stand on prepared baking sheet or greaseproof paper
    * If the toffee begins to harden before all the apples have been dipped warm over a very low heat until liquid again
    * Toffee apples may be stored, wrapped individually in greaseproof or waxed paper, but keep them in a dry place

  4. Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
    To prove old England's overthrow.

By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.

And what shall we do with him?
    Burn him!

    · Treacle Toffee To Stick Jaws Shut ·

    Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups soft brown sugar
1/2 cup demerera sugar (crystalized, light brown sugar)
    2/3 cup water
    1/4 cup black treacle
    1/4 cup butter
    1 teaspoon vinegar

    Recommended equipment: Candy Thermometer.

Before you start, butter a low-side cake-tin and set aside, you'll be pouring the toffee in it for setting later.

Place ingredients in large heavy pan and heat slowly, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Then, cover and bring to a strong boil. To keep mixture from sticking to the bottom, stir for the next 10 minutes, or until your mixture reaches 280ºF.

If you don't have a candy thermometer and you want to check that your mixture is ready, drop a little of the mixture, into a glass of cold water. If it forms a hard ball, then the toffee is ready to be set.

Pour into the tin you prepared and let cool.

When the toffee is half set, mark it into squares. When the toffee is hard, break it up, and eat inordinate amounts.

  6. So i went to that official movie website and they did not have any photos of Clive Ashborn as Guy Fawkes except for the hanging. I can't find any pictures of Clive Ashborn in Pirates of the Caribbean or V for Vendetta online. He is easily the best looking actor in the whole of V and he opens up the movie, but where are the images of this hunk? Clive is absolutely fabulous as Fawkes. He delivers no lines, but emotes so well. Post links to his photos please!

  10. I did look for the music after you posted your comment, and had little luck. I am sorry. Perhaps this will bring smiles -- The Wind in the Willows episode wherein our friends Ratty (Peter Sallis, aka Wallace of Wallace and Gromit), Badger, Mole and Toad (Jason York) celebrate the 5th. Ah, childhood favorites. This is in three parts on YouTube.
